Leave, Be Joined, Become One

Leave, Be Joined, Become One

Friday

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
— Genesis 2:24 (ESV)

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.

— Ephesians 5:31-32 (ESV)
The threefold pattern established in Eden still stands today. A man shall leave—establishing a new household, stepping out in faith and responsibility. A man shall be joined to his wife—clinging to her with covenantal loyalty, making her the first priority among all earthly relationships. And the two shall become one flesh—woven together in body, soul, and purpose. This was God’s design before sin ever entered the world. It was holy, heterosexual, and monogamous from the very start. In the first marriage, God foresaw the grandest marriage of all: the day when Christ will be joined forever to His bride, the church.

Today, reflect on the faithfulness of God’s original design. Ask the Lord to help you honor the covenant commitments in your life—in your marriage, your church, and your walk with Him.
Prayer:
Father, You established the pattern for faithfulness in the garden. Strengthen me to leave behind what hinders, cling to what matters, and walk in unity with those You have joined me to. Amen.
