Leadership as Stewardship

Leadership as Stewardship

Tuesday

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.
— Ephesians 6:4,9 (ESV)
Reflect:
Those in positions of authority receive a sobering reminder: you yourself have a Master in heaven. Every parent, employer, supervisor, or leader operates with borrowed authority. We are not owners but stewards, accountable to the One who entrusted us with influence over others. This transforms leadership from a privilege to be exploited into a trust to be honored. Notice how the text specifically warns against "provoking" and "threatening"—the tools of domination that the world considers normal. Gospel leadership cultivates rather than crushes, nurtures rather than intimidates. The measure of your leadership will not be how much you accomplished through those under you, but how you served Christ by serving them.
Pray:
Father, You are the true Master of all. Forgive me for the times I have used my authority selfishly or harshly. Help me remember that those under my care belong to You, not to me. Teach me to lead as one who will give account. Amen.

If you have any authority over others, examine your leadership today. Have you used threats, manipulation, or harshness? Ask forgiveness where needed and commit to leading as a servant-steward.
