Understand the Will of the Lord
Understand the Will of the Lord
Wednesday
Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
— Ephesians 5:17 (ESV)
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
— Romans 12:1-2 (ESV)

"Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is." Many believers spend years agonizing over God's will as though it were a hidden treasure map buried in some mysterious location. But the truth is, the vast majority of God's will has already been revealed in His Word. He wants you to be holy. He wants you to love others. He wants you to share the gospel. He wants you to walk in the Spirit.
Romans 12:1–2 tells us that understanding God's will involves a transformed mind: "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." The will of God is discerned through a renewed mind, and a renewed mind comes from consistent exposure to Scripture and surrender to the Spirit.
If you are wrestling with a decision today, start with what God has already revealed. Are you obeying what you already know? Are you walking in the light you already have? Often, the next step of God's will becomes clear only when we are faithful with the step we are already on.

Reflect:
Is there something God has clearly revealed in His Word that you have been slow to obey? How might obedience in that area open the door to greater clarity about His will?
