Nothing By Accident
Nothing By Accident
Tuesday
“Do two walk together, unless they have agreed to meet? Does a lion roar in the forest, when he has no prey? Does a young lion cry out from his den, if he has taken nothing? Does a bird fall in a snare on the earth, when there is no trap for it? Does a snare spring up from the ground, when it has taken nothing? Is a trumpet blown in a city, and the people are not afraid? Does disaster come to a city, unless the LORD has done it?”
— Amos 3:3-6 (ESV)
— Amos 3:3-6 (ESV)
Every question here has an obvious answer, and that’s the point. Effects have causes. The world is not a chaos of random events; it is governed by a God who is never absent and never asleep. That can feel unsettling when we read verse 6, but it is meant to comfort the believer: if nothing reaches you apart from His sovereign hand, then nothing reaches you apart from His sovereign love. The same God who permits the hard season is the God who is working through it.
Prayer:
Father, when life feels random and out of control, remind me that You hold every thread. Help me trust Your hand even when I cannot trace it.
Father, when life feels random and out of control, remind me that You hold every thread. Help me trust Your hand even when I cannot trace it.
