The King Who Redeems

The King Who Redeems

Wednesday

As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; today I declare that I will restore to you double.
— Zechariah 9:11-12 (ESV)

knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.

— 1 Peter 1:18-19 (ESV)
"Because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will set your prisoners free." What a promise! The waterless pit represents hopeless captivity—dry, desolate, and death-dealing. But the Redeeming King descends into our prison and pays the ransom. Peter tells us we were ransomed not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ. The cost of our freedom was infinite. Yet Jesus paid it willingly. Notice that Zechariah calls the redeemed "prisoners of hope." We are no longer prisoners of despair, fear, or shame. We are captive to hope—held securely by the promise that God will restore double what we have lost.
Reflection:
What "waterless pit" have you experienced in your life?
How does knowing that Jesus paid your ransom change your perspective on that season?
Pray:
Redeeming King, thank You for entering my prison and paying the price I could never pay. Help me live as a prisoner of hope today. Amen.
