Walk Carefully

Walk Carefully

Monday

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,
— Ephesians 5:15 (ESV)

Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.
— Proverbs 4:25-27 (ESV)
A tightrope walker does not look at the crowd. He looks at the wire. His eyes are fixed, his steps measured, and his concentration is absolute. One careless glance to the side could be fatal. The text in Ephesians 5:15 tells us to "look carefully then how you walk." The word "carefully" implies exactness and precision. It is a word that leaves no room for spiritual sleepwalking.

In Proverbs 4, Solomon gives us the practical details: "Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil." Careful walking begins with careful looking. What are your eyes fixed on today? Are you pondering the path before you, or are you drifting along on autopilot?

Today, ask the Lord to sharpen your spiritual vision. Pray that He would make you aware of the steps you are taking and the direction you are heading. A careful walk is not a fearful walk — it is a faith-filled walk that trusts God enough to follow His path precisely.
Reflect:
What is one area of your life where you have been walking carelessly?
What would it look like to bring intentionality and precision to that area today?
