Keep Your Heart Open

Keep Your Heart Open

Friday

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
— Ephesians 4:32 (ESV)

The temple gates closed behind Paul as the crowd dragged him away. That image invites a question: Can we keep our hearts open when others hurt us? Today's verse grounds kindness and forgiveness in God's grace. Jesus bore our sin at the cross. Through faith in Him, we receive mercy we could never earn.

His forgiveness reshapes our responses. We bring resentment to Him and ask for help speaking truth without cruelty. Forgiveness does not require denying harm or restoring trust. Necessary boundaries can accompany a tender heart. Sometimes we need to ask forgiveness ourselves. Name what you did, acknowledge its effect, and apologize without excuses.

This week, we considered welcome, humility, careful speech, and trust. Practice them when relationships become difficult. Before Sunday, take one faithful step toward peace: offer an apology, arrange a respectful conversation, or pray for someone who hurt you. Let Jesus soften your heart today.
Pause & Reflect:
Whose name makes your heart tighten? What would kindness look like without denying the truth? Is there someone who needs a sincere apology from you? Spend a quiet moment asking God to search your heart.
Put it Into Practice:
Take one step toward peace today. Offer an apology, arrange a respectful conversation, or pray sincerely for someone who hurt you. Ask the Lord for wisdom about the timing and any boundaries needed.
Pray:
Lord Jesus, thank You for forgiving me and opening the way to the Father. Keep my heart tender when I am hurt. Deliver me from revenge, careless speech, and the pride that refuses to apologize. Help me tell the truth with kindness and forgive with the grace You have shown me. Give me wisdom to pursue peace faithfully. Prepare my heart for worship and make our church a place where Your mercy is visible. In Your name, amen.
