The Voice in the Night

"And the Lord said to Paul one night in a vision, 'Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent, for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many in this city who are my people.'"
— Acts 18:9-10 (ESV)
"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
— Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."
— Joshua 1:9 (ESV)
"And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
— Matthew 28:20b (ESV)
— Acts 18:9-10 (ESV)

Reflect:
Notice that Jesus does not say, "There is nothing to be afraid of." He says, "I am with you." Courage in Scripture is never the absence of danger; it is the presence of Christ. And the reason given for boldness is not the preacher's ability but the Savior's ownership: *I have many in this city who are my people.*

Respond:
Write out Acts 18:9–10 on a card. Put it where you will see it when fear arrives — the dashboard, the mirror, the desk drawer.

Pray:
Lord Jesus, quiet my fear with Your nearness. Loosen my tongue where I have been silent. Remind me that the people I am afraid to speak to may already be Yours. Amen.
