Reflect:
The Bereans model the two halves of a healthy mind. They received the word with all eagerness, and they examined the Scriptures daily to see if it was so. Eagerness without examination becomes gullibility. Examination without eagerness becomes cynicism. Hold both.
Then comes Athens, and the message does not soften for the educated crowd. Repentance is commanded of all people everywhere, and the guarantee God offers the world is not a philosophy but an empty tomb. The resurrection is God's public receipt.
That is why the gospel could not be stopped between Jerusalem and Athens, and it is why it cannot be stopped in your city this week. A rumor can be argued away. A risen Christ cannot.
