Make Room at the Table

Make Room at the Table

Monday

“When we had come to Jerusalem, the brothers received us gladly.”
— Acts 21:17 (ESV)

Before the rumors, riot, and chains, Paul received a glad welcome in Jerusalem. After a demanding journey, he found believers pleased to see him. Their kindness belongs to the story of God's work. Ministry often begins that simply: someone notices another person and makes room. A church guest may carry grief, loneliness, or uncertainty beneath Sunday clothes. A warm greeting can help them feel welcome enough to listen.

Hospitality matters at home, too. Sometimes strangers receive our brightest smiles while family gets our leftovers. Put down your phone. Look up when your spouse enters. Listen when your child speaks. When Paul shared what God had accomplished, the elders listened and glorified God. They made room for his story.

Jesus has welcomed us through grace. We come by faith in the Savior who died and rose for sinners. Today, let His kindness become the attention you give someone who needs it.
Pause & Reflect:
Who in your daily life might be waiting for someone to notice them? Where have familiarity or busyness made you less welcoming? Take a quiet moment to bring one specific person before the Lord.
Put it Into Practice:
Offer one intentional welcome today. Learn a name, invite someone into a conversation, or greet a family member with undivided attention. Ask one sincere question, and stay long enough to hear the answer.
Pray:
Father, thank You for receiving me through Jesus Christ. Forgive me for the times I have been too busy, distracted, or comfortable to notice someone else. Give me eyes to see the person standing alone and a heart willing to make room. Help my family experience the same kindness I want guests to experience. Let my welcome reflect Your grace, and use an ordinary conversation to encourage someone today. In Jesus' name, amen.
