Built Together

Built Together

Friday

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
— Ephesians 2:19-22 (ESV)
Paul concludes this section with three powerful images of our new identity: we are fellow citizens with the saints, members of God's household, and living stones being built into a holy temple. Each image emphasizes community, belonging, and purpose.

Notice the phrase in verse 22: "being built together." Christianity is not a solo sport. You cannot be built alone; you are built together. The temple God is constructing requires multiple stones, carefully placed, working together. A single stone, no matter how beautiful, is not a temple. It takes many stones, fitted together, to create a dwelling place for God.

This has profound implications for how we view the church. We are not consumers looking for a religious product; we are stones being fitted into God's building. We are not isolated individuals who happen to gather occasionally; we are family members who belong together. We are not spectators watching from a distance; we are participants in something God is building.
1. How are you being "built together" with other believers?
2. Where has God placed you in His building, and how are you contributing to the whole?
Lord, help me to see my place in Your building. Show me how I can contribute to the unity and growth of Your church. Make me a stone that fits well with others for Your glory. Amen.
