The Power of "But Now"

The Power of "But Now"

Tuesday

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
— Ephesians 2:13 (ESV)
Two small words carry enormous weight: "But now." These words appear at pivotal moments throughout Scripture, always marking the intrusion of God's grace into hopeless situations. Yesterday we remembered where we were. Today we celebrate what has changed.

"But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ." Distance has become closeness. Alienation has become intimacy. The blood of Christ has bridged an uncrossable chasm. Think about what blood represents in Scripture—life poured out, sacrifice offered, covenant sealed. Jesus didn't just send a message of reconciliation; He became the means of it through His death.

The phrase "brought near" is in the passive voice—you didn't bring yourself near. You were brought. This is grace. You were powerless to close the gap, so God closed it for you through the blood of His Son. You didn't swim across the ocean; you were carried.
1. What "but now" moments can you identify in your spiritual journey?
2. How has God's grace interrupted your story?
Thank You, Lord, for the 'but now' of the gospel. Thank You that my story didn't end in hopelessness but was interrupted by Your grace. Amen.
