Chosen and Accountable

Chosen and Accountable

Monday

“Hear this word that the LORD has spoken against you, O people of Israel, against the whole family that I brought up out of the land of Egypt: ‘You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.’”
— Amos 3:1-2 (ESV)
We often assume that being chosen by God means being shielded from His correction. Today’s text says the opposite. The word “known” (yada) speaks of the deepest, most intimate relationship — and it is precisely because God drew Israel so close that He held them so accountable. Nearness to God is a gift, but it is never a license.

Consider the relationships in your life where you are most loved: aren’t those also the relationships where the most is rightly expected of you? God’s love does not lower the bar; it raises it, because He wants His beloved to look like Him.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for knowing me by name. Don’t let me treat Your nearness as permission to drift. Hold me close, and hold me accountable.
