Justified

Justification is the gracious act of God by which God declares a sinner righteous solely through faith in Jesus Christ. In Galatians 2, the term justified appears four times in verses 16-17. It comes from the same word in the Greek that is translated “righteousness” in verse 21. A number of common New Testament terms come from this same root: justify, justification, just, righteousness, righteous. Martin Luther claimed that justification by faith alone is the doctrine upon which the church stands or falls. In this chapter, Paul is driving home the point that justification is indispensable in terms of how we think of the gospel and the Christian life.
